That’s right folks!  This week Jones Family Farms has been open for business!

It’s time to gather up the clan and head on over to Jones Family Farms’ famous Strawberries Fields for the 2008 season.

From the drivers of the ever-popular Berry Ferry rides, to our greeters as you enter the farm, to the friendly faces waiting to show you to your picking row out in the field- our farm family is ready for you every step of the way.

This intense heat that we experienced earlier this week has made a lot of our berries just burst into ripeness. Watching the expressions of the guests in the fields as they sample the fruit – it’s obvious that the crop this year is a tasty one!

“Local strawberries are highly appreciated and vanish quickly from the vines. The season usually ends within several days after the 4th of July,” says Terry Jones. The farm opened for 20089 on Monday June 9th. When strawberries are at peak season, which is weather dependent, the farm will open daily at 8 a.m. Customers may enter the fields until 5:30 p.m. On Sundays the strawberry fields will close at noon. As always, the Jones suggest that their guests call the crop information line (203-929-8425) and listen to the Farmer Jones updated report for picking locations and hours of operation before they visit the farm.

A few tips for strawberry pickers:

  • Wear comfortable clothing that can keep you cool. Hats, shoes with closed toes and heels, and a bottle of water will help keep you safe and cool while picking in the fields. Also bring your sunscreen and apply liberally.
  • Jones provides cardboard containers for the strawberry harvest and printed information on the care of berries as well as recipes.
