There’s crispness in the air, some color in the trees and the sight of orange peeking out from underneath the pumpkin leaves – it’s time for Pumpkin Season at Jones Family Farms in Shelton, CT.

This weekend, September 27th, kicks off the sneak-peek weekend at Jones Family Farms’ Pumpkinseed Hill. Guests will be able to get their early pumpkins, squashes, gourds and more. What is a better way to usher in Autumn than a good old-fashioned ride in one of Jones’ hay wagon tractor rides? Get lost in their corn maze and you’ll forget that you’re not standing in a field deep in Iowa somewhere.

When you visit the farm this weekend, you’ll be in good company. On Saturday the 27th, Jones will act as the starting and ending location for the Eastern Connecticut and King’s Mark Resource Conservation and Development Councils’ (RC&Ds) Tour des Farms bike ride. The “tour” will take the bikers on a 24-mile loop of farms in the area to enjoy the scenic views, the fresh local produce and Autumn fun the farms have to offer. If you are interested in joining the tour, you can register online ( or at the farm the day of the event.

Along with the “tour”ists on September 27th, the Jones Farm will also play host to the Great Farm Adventure. The adventure is a part of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) “No Child Left Inside” initiative. Families who have registered with the DEP will be visiting Jones to take part in all the farm has to offer.

The Jones family and Jones Family Farms have always been leaders in community involvement and these two events are proof. “We are always happy to do what we can for the community” said Terry Jones, owner and operator of Jones Family Farm, “and when we are able to be a place for families to gather, spend time together and make new memories, we are delighted to be a part of it.”
