We had a great time this past weekend at the farm as we hosted the 50th Annual CT Christmas Tree Growers Associati
on Meeting. Over 200 people were in attendance on Friday and Saturday. There were many vendors present, and with seminars and farm tours, the attendees were kept very busy!
As the apprentice, my main job was with the preparation and serving of the food for the event. The food preparation started in the beginning of the month, with baked goods that could be frozen and taken out later for the event. During the week before the event, preparations really went into full force, as veggies were prepped for salads, more baked goods were made, and other preparations had to be finished as well. I was thankful that I had plenty of help from some of the summer interns, as well as Farmer Allyson and Chef Sherry!
During the two day event, we provided two breakfasts, two lunches, a wine tasting, and did set-up and drinks for a dinner catered by the Big Green Truck, an antique truck with a built-in brick oven in the back which they use to make brick-oven pizzas. Although there are hours between each meal, it seems like we went immediately from one meal to the next, with the set-up, clean-up, and trying to keep up with all of the dishes!
It was a busy weekend, but all went well, and everyone had a good time. During Friday night’s entertainment, everyone even sang “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas!” Yes, it’s August, but there are a lot of farmers out there with the Christmas spirit, getting your trees ready for December!
