Recipe of the Day: Pumpkin Puree

While it is very easy to purchase the cans of pumpkin puree at the supermarket, it is really not too hard to make your own pumpkin puree. Making puree from your own pumpkins makes a wonderfully fresh product that is so much more satisfying than just opening a can.

Here are the directions to make your own pumpkin puree.

Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Cut the pumpkin in half and clean out the seeds and stringy pulp. Cover a baking sheet with foil and spray it with cooking spray. Place the pumpkin halves cut side down on the baking sheet. Bake the pumpkin for about an hour or until the pumpkin flesh is soft. Cool the pumpkin. Remove the skin and cut the flesh into pieces. Blend the pumpkin in a blender or a food processor. Now you have fresh pumpkin puree to use in any recipe that calls for canned pumpkin or pumpkin puree.
