Strawberry season is in full swing and the fields are absolutely bursting with berries. With all of the farm preparations and staff trainings needed to get ready for such a grand event, it’s been a little while since we’ve given an update on farm life. Jones Family Farms has welcomed 14 college and high school students to our summer team, and with the first week of strawberry season behind them our interns are quickly becoming expert berry farmers. Every year our summer interns go through a week long training known as “Strawberry School,” where they learn about farm history, strawberry recipes and post-harvest care, field assigning techniques, vegetable varieties, and more.
Our team has spent the past week welcoming guests to the farm, showing visiors how to pick the perfect strawberry, weeding fields, and picking berries for the farm to use in our Harvest Kitchen. We’ll look forward to hearing more from our interns throughout the summer as they make guest appearances here on the Jones blog with insights on daily farm life at one of our busiest times of year!
