This summer’s hot, dry weather has been having quite an effect on our crops, and the pumpkins are no exception. When plants are faced with drought-like conditions (a life or death situation) they start putting more of their energy into growing fruit to ensure the next generation’s survival. Our pumpkin plants have been soaking up the sun and turning our fields into a carpet of green, white, and orange fruit. Some of the huge pumpkins we like to call “Jamie’s Giants” are well on their way to reaching their full size of 50 to 75 pounds. Fall will be here before we know it!
